The Wigan midfielder has become Palace's record signing.
Crystal Palace have added a bit of steel to their midfield, signing Scottish international James McArthur from Wigan Athletic. The deal is reportedly worth £7m, which would make McArthur an all-time record signing for Palace.
McArthur was a bit of a fringe player in his first year with Wigan, but he's established himself firmly as first choice since then. He was a very good player for Wigan in the Premier League, then one of the absolute best players in the Championship last season. Understandably, McArthur opted to make a move to the Premier League once the opportunity presented itself.
While this is a quality signing for Palace, it also comes in the area where they arguably have the most quality. With Mile Jedinak and Joe Ledley in the team, defensive midfielders are the least of the team's problems.
Tony Pulis left Palace by mutual consent after being denied big transfer funds, but the club's board apparently had less of a problem giving Neil Warnock a lot of money to spend. McArthur's fee is in the same range as Pulis' reported targets.
