Flyers vs. Rangers 2014 final score: 3 things we learned from New York's 2-0 win

The Rangers took advantage of a Flyers team that was not very good.

The Philadelphia Flyers picked a heck of a night to have a bad game.

Kevin Klein and Rick Nash each scored a goal and Cam Talbot made 31 saves to give the New York Rangers a 2-0 win against the Flyers at Madison Square Garden.

Klein's first period tally was enough to seal up the win and Nash's second period power play goal put it away as the Rangers took advantage of a Flyers team that didn't put forth their best effort. The shutout was Talbot's fourth in his career and first this season.

The one bright spot for Philly? The play of Steve Mason who stopped 32 shots to keep the Flyers in the game. Flyers GM Ron Hextall was apparently rather displeased with the effort.

Three Things We Learned

1. Nash just keeps on scoring. The Rangers must be thrilled that the Rick Nash they thought they picked up from Columbus has showed up this season. Nash's goal was his 13th of the season and he's one goal behind the league leader, Dallas' Jamie Benn.

2. The Flyers might have an excuse if Claude Giroux didn't play. Giroux was supposed to be out with an ankle problem, but instead was a "quick healer" and wound up playing. A lot. The top line of Giroux, Brayden Schenn, and Jakub Voracek each played well more than 20 minutes each. Giroux topped out at 25:53. All that valiant play resulted in no goals against the Rangers backup goalie and this image going down as the one to remember for their effort.

No wonder Hextall screamed at everyone.

3. Jakub Voracek is human after all. Voracek came into the game on a 10-game point streak and left it with heaping amounts of disappointment. OK, probably not that but it's been a great run for a player who is often caught in Giroux's shadow in Philly. He'll just have to settle for continuing to be tied with Sidney Crosby for the league lead in scoring.
