After sitting out Sunday's opener, Cam Newton is set to make his season debut against the Lions in Week 2. We break down the fantasy implications.

The Carolina Panthers have confirmed that quarterback Cam Newton will be the starter for next Sunday's Week 2 game against the Detroit Lions.

Newton missed the season opener with a hairline rib fracture he suffered in preseason. He attempted to play through the injury, but couldn't get in any full practice sessions and ended up being scratched. Derek Anderson got the start and performed well, throwing for 230 yards and two touchdowns while guiding Carolina to a win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Fantasy impact: With another week to rest his ribs, Newton should have a much better chance of making the start than he did last Sunday. Barring a setback in practice this week, he can be inserted back into fantasy lineups against Detroit's questionable defense. Anderson deserves a pat on the back for his relief work and will be worth a look in two-quarterback leagues if Newton goes down again. Newton will be in the QB1 picture if he can get 100 percent healthy.
