Justin Hunter was the third receiver on the field, but he saw more targets than the two guys above him in Sunday's opener. We break down the fantasy implications.
Tennessee Titans wide receiver Justin Hunter took part in 52 of 82 offensive snaps in the team's season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. Hunter was the third receiver on the field behind Nate Washington and Kendall Wright, but he saw more targets than both of them, with eight. He also had the most yardage, catching three passes for 63 yards.
He was held without a touchdown, however. Wright caught six passes for 46 yards and a touchdown while Washington caught four passes for 59 yards. Washington played 78 snaps and Wright played 65, so it's pretty significant that Hunter managed to get more looks than the both of them. This is his second season in the league after catching 18 passes for 354 yards and four touchdowns as a rookie.
Fantasy Impact: Hunter definitely has some fantasy value, especially with the targets going his way. It's hard to imagine his playing time will do anything but go up going forward, but he's still an outside WR4 or even less until he shows he can pass one of Wright or Washington on the depth chart. Still, the Titans will clearly run plenty of three-wide sets this season, which bodes well for Hunter and, accordingly, fantasy owners.
