Lamar Miller had been the lead back in the Dolphins' backfield committee for most of preseason, but Knowshon Moreno might have pulled ahead of him just before the real games start. We break down the fantasy implications.
The Miami Dolphins seem committed to running a backfield committee with Lamar Miller and Knowshon Moreno. They just haven't been clear on who will get the majority of snaps, but we might have some answers from the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero. The long-time Dolphins beat writer says it's "clear" that Moreno will be the lead back, based on comments made by offensive coordinator Bill Lazor.
Miller handled most of the first-team reps in training camp while Moreno recovered from offseason knee surgery, but failed to truly separate himself, averaging just 3.4 yards per carry in the preseason. Moreno made his debut in the third preseason game and had a standout performance, rushing for 64 yards on 10 carries.
Fantasy impact: The tea leaves suggest that Moreno will see the third-down and passing snaps, due to his superior pass-protection skills. Miller could still end up being the nominal starter, but it's disconcerting that he still hasn't run away with the job in his third NFL season.
This all makes for a confusing fantasy situation that probably won't sort itself out until a few weeks into the season. Neither player is an attractive starting option against the New England Patriots in Week 1.
