Hamburger SV have announced the signing of Lewis Holtby from Tottenham Hotspur on a season-long loan.

Lewis Holtby has joined Hamburger SV on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur.

The Bundesliga outfit announced the deal on their website after the German playmaker completed his medical, as new Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino continues to rebalance his squad in the dying hours of the transfer window.

Holtby joined Tottenham from Schalke in January 2013, but failed to make much of an impact at White Hart Lane. He spent half of last season on loan too, at Fulham, but was unable to stop the club's relegation from the Premier League.

Holtby recently spoke of the desire to stay at White Hart Lane in the long-term despite leaving on loan, and his deal at the club extends until 2018.

The deal could also free up more funds for Spurs, who have been linked to a host of players on deadline day as they look to strengthen their squad for the upcoming campaign.
