Kansas City will have to keep San Francisco's typical late-game magic boxed up in order to take a 2-1 series lead.
The Royals lead the Giants, 3-2, entering the bottom of the ninth inning in Game 3 of the World Series Friday night.
Neither team has scored since the sixth inning, when the two clubs combined for four runs. Both bullpens have been stingy since then, and in the Giants' case, the defense has been sharp as well. Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer made a strong bid to lead off the top of the ninth with an infield single, but Pablo Sandoval had other ideas, barehanding a broken-bat looper and firing to first to get the out.
Buster Posey, Sandoval and Hunter Pence are due up for the Giants against Royals closer Greg Holland.
