It looks as if Bayern Munich could be without their captain for a good bit of time. Philipp Lahm went down injured in training on Wednesday, was immediately taken to a medical facility, and was confirmed to have broken his ankle.

Here's Bayern's tweet about the diagnosis, in German.

German paper Bild tweeted out this photo of Lahm on crutches shortly after training, already in a cast.

Bayern have been playing without a set formation or roles this year, mostly because they have the players to get away with it. But with Lahm and his left-sided counterpart David Alaba both out injured, Pep Guardiola will likely have to re-think the way his team plays. He has enough talent to beat anyone, even with Lahm and Alaba out, but there certainly aren't any other players in his squad who can fill roving midfield, fullback and defense roles all at the same time.
