Clemsoning, basketball edition. The Tigers lost to Gardner-Webb, their second straight loss to a Big South team, after they called a timeout they didn't have.

The situation: Clemson is playing Gardner-Webb in the first round of the Paradise Jam in the Virgin Islands. The Tigers led by five with about a minute to go, but an off-balance Tyler Strange three has made it a tie ballgame. Clemson is going to try to go the length of the court in 6.6 seconds for the win. Here's what happened when they

You can see Rod Hall pretty clearly signaling for a timeout. The problem: Clemson didn't have any left. This is the Chris Webber situation.

Gardner-Webb -- THE RUNNIN' BULLDOGS! -- got to shoot a pair of free throws, which Jarvis Davis calmly sanky:

You can hear the confusion amongst the announcers, who, like Clemson, were under the belief Clemson had timeouts remaining. Sure enough, there's confusion in the box score, too. Clemson is only listed as having called four timeouts, and the timeout they called immediately after Strange's three was listed as an "official TV timeout." It blatantly wasn't -- the official TV timeout was called at the 3:14 mark -- but it's possible somebody manning the scorer's table misidentified the timeout, allowing the Tigers to take the floor under the impression they still had one remaining.

Clemson still had an opportunity to tie the game, but a flurry of attempts at the rim missed: Look at the excitement on G-W's players as they sprint off with the goofy upset.

Whatever Clemson's gripes about the situation in the stadium, they could've realized how many timeouts they had by, you know, counting. And they can't blame the refs for the fact that they allowed Gardner-Webb back into this ballgame, and then failed to tie or win the game when they had the opportunity. The Tigers have now lost two consecutive games to Big South teams -- they lost to Winthrop on Monday, which is more embarrassing since that was at home -- and this ACC season could be kinda bleak for them.
