The Gunners finally have their emergency centre forward. Maybe.
Do Arsenal finally have their centre forward? Sky Sports news have just announced that Manchester United's Danny Welbeck is having a medical with the Gunners, who've lost first-choice striker Olivier Giroud for months and have nobody else save Yaya Sanogo for depth up top.
After being linked to the likes of Radamel Falcao earlier on deadline day only to see the Colombian head for Manchester instead, it might be a little frustrating for the fans to take such a significant step down in quality -- but any comparative annoyance is surely erased by the fact that any striker is being signed at all, which looked in some doubt for a while.
Welbeck, who has also been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, is probably going to end up being a loan signing, although he still won't come cheap. With United reportedly seeking up to £4 million in loan fees and Welbeck apparently on more than £100,000 per week, he represents a very expensive emergency buy. But needs must.
