Aston Villa will be keeping their captain for the season.
Aston Villa fans can rejoice: Ron Vlaar is apparently going nowhere. The club captain, 29, had earlier been linked to a shock switch to Arsenal, who are so low on centre backs that one has to assume that their defence is an elaborate practical joke, but according to the Guardian his agent Arnold Oosterveer has happily rubbished that particular story.
There is no truth in any of the rumours. He still has a contract with Villa for one year so he will stay there. There is nothing happening with him today.
That's obviously great news for Paul Lambert and company -- without Vlaar, his top defender would be Philippe Senderos, which is a prime recipe for relegation. Arsenal, however, are going to have to keep scrambling around for reinforcements at the back. The market's starting to look seriously thin, and although Manchester City's Matija Nastasic has been linked with a move to the Etihad, it's difficult to imagine Manuel Pellegrini being willing to help out a rival like that.
