On Friday night, the No. 6 Oregon Ducks topped the California Golden Bears 59-41, keeping hope alive in Eugene for a run at the national championship. After trailing 14-7 in the first quarter, Oregon got rolling to the tune of 24 consecutive points to pull away. California rallied to shrink the lead to three, but could never get closer.

Marcus Mariota was excellent, throwing for 326 yards and five touchdowns against one interception. The Ducks were able to churn out 590 total yards while allowing 560, while the teams combined for a sloppy 21 penalties. For Oregon, it was an ugly win but a win all the same, setting up important dates against Stanford and at No. 19 Utah the next two weeks.

Elsewhere in college football, the Boise State Broncos upended the BYU Cougars 55-30 behind Grant Hedrick's 410 passing yards and four touchdowns, along with Jay Ajayi rushing for 118 yards and a pair of scores. With the victory, Boise State is bowl eligible at 6-2, while BYU falls to 4-4 after a promising start to its campaign.

In the American Conference, the Cincinnati Bearcats defeated the South Florida Bulls 34-17 at Paul Brown Stadium. Cincinnati dominated on the ground, outgaining South Florida 273-42 behind Mike Boone. Boone carried 19 times for 212 yards and a touchdown. Shaq Washington also stood out with 12 catches and 163 yards for the Bearcats, who improved to 4-3.

The fourth game on Friday night matched the South Alabama Jaguars and Troy Trojans, with South Alabama getting its fifth win, 27-13. Running backs Kendall Houston and Xavier Johnson led the way, rushing for 178 and 107 yards respectively.
