The United States got out to a big lead over Germany and never looked back.
On a day when the rest of the world rested, the United States junior hockey team took care of business.
The Americans climbed back atop the Group A standings with a 6-0 win against Germany in the World Junior Championships on Sunday. Canada and the United States are tied for the group lead with two wins apiece.
Dylan Larkin showed why he was the highest draft pick of the Detroit Red Wings in many years with an impressive performance, tallying two goals and an assist in the win.
The Americans didn't take long to get their offense cooking. Auston Matthews opened the scoring with a goal just 4:44 into the game off a feed from Nick Schmaltz. It was the first point of the tournament for both players. Germany's best scoring chance of the game came shortly after when Fabio Phofl sprinted out on a breakaway, but USA goalie Brendan Halverson shut the chance down.
The United States made it a two-goal lead with a goal from Hudson Fasching at 12:30. The Americans were outshooting the Germans 22-5 at the first intermission.
Germany couldn't change momentum quickly enough in the second before Sonny Milano scored his first goal of the tournament to give the United States a commanding 3-0 lead. After sniffing around the net with J.T. Compher a few times, Larkin finally scored a goal of his own to widen the lead further.
American stalwart Jack Eichel scored in the third period and Larkin added another to extend the USA's lead to six goals.
