The Mavericks guard appeared to injure his ankle when he landed awkwardly on Russell Westbrook's foot.

Dallas Mavericks shooting guard Monta Ellis suffered an apparent left ankle injury on Sunday and was forced to leave Dallas' game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The injury occurred late in the fourth quarter when Ellis' foot landed on Russell Westbrook's foot and Ellis appeared to roll his ankle. He was eventually able to walk off the court on his own, but did so slowly.

Ellis has been among the most durable players in the NBA in recent seasons. He hasn't missed a game due to injury since the 2011-12 season. The severity of his ankle injury is still unknown, but Ellis remained down on the court for several minutes, grabbing at his ankle before eventually limping off.

Should Ellis be forced to miss time, the Mavericks would have a major void to fill. The 29-year-old leads the team in scoring, assists and steals per game. Coming into Sunday, he was averaging 20.7 points per game, his highest output since the 2010-11 season.

Ellis does have some ankle injury history, including in 2008 when he tore a ligament in his left ankle in a moped accident.
