Michael Sam is going to be a talking point this season by virtue of being the NFL's first openly homosexual player, but in reporting on his fitting in in the locker room with his Rams teammates were asked some unusual questions.
ESPN reporter Josina Anderson appeared on SportsCenter to discuss the rookie defensive end, and following a series of complementary points she began to talk about the showering habits of Rams players. There were no salacious details, but in order to find out who on the team had showered at the same time as Sam means the question was asked in the first place, by somebody. It's unclear whether Anderson asked herself, or simply heard player's answers.
Regardless of where the question came from, it's something that wouldn't have been asked to any other player in the NFL. There are a thousand ways to analyze Sam's chances of making the roster, and finding out whether he's fitting into the roster is a common question for young players -- showering with them, that isn't.
It's going to be nice when the cuts are over with and everyone can move past this.
