As there usually is at big rivalry match, there was a significant presence at the Portland Timbers-Seattle Sounders match. How significant? Well, Sounders fans thought it was more than usual.

That was about an hour before kickoff when security was apparently looking banners and scarves that had bad words on them and confiscating the ones they found.

By 30 minutes before kickoff, though, police and other security seemed relaxed. One police officer, who said he'd worked several Cascadia Cup rivalry matches, said he found the crowds well behaved and mostly trouble free. He didn't seem particularly worried about this match getting out of hand either, saying he found the visiting crowds impressive more than something to be concerned about.
