Another event, another paycheck worth more than $1.5 million for Rory McIlroy.

It's been a very lucrative few weeks for Rory McIlroy. Fresh off his win at the British Open and the $1.66 million paycheck that came with that, McIlroy earned another seven-figure purse when he edged out Sergio Garcia to win the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. The win came with a first-place prize of $1.53 million, giving McIlroy nearly $3.2 million in winnings in his last two events.

With a quality field, the WGC events have among the richest purses in golf. McIlroy appeared headed toward another significant payday when he opened the round in second place, three strokes behind Garcia. Four birdies in his first five holes helped McIlroy take over the lead and he held on the rest of the way to finish at 15-under, two strokes ahead of Garcia. The victory should be enough to vault McIlroy ahead of Adam Scott to the No. 1 spot in the Official World Golf Rankings. It will also bring him within a couple thousand dollars of Bubba Watson for the top spot on the PGA Tour money list. McIlroy has now made more than $5 million in on-course winnings this season with a few lucrative events yet to come.

Like he did at the British Open, Garcia finished second to McIlroy. Although he wasn't able to come away with the win, he earned $900,000 for his runner-up finish. He earned $785,910 for his second-place finish at the British Open, giving him more than $1.6 million in recent earnings. Marc Leishman finished third and took home $517,000.
