Neither team has a shot at the playoffs, so their game on Sunday is just for someone to finish on a high note and there aren't a lot of good fantasy options.
The Miami Dolphins have been eliminated from the playoff hunt. The same could be said about the New York Jets months ago. For these two teams, their game Sunday is just about finishing out 2014 with some measure of grace.
Jets wide receiver Percy Harvin looked doubtful for this game early in the week as he dealt with a rib injury, though at this point he hasn't been ruled out and he's at least a game-time decision. For the Dolphins, wide receiver Mike Wallace and tight end Charles Clay both appeared on the injury report, but both should be good to go for Sunday.
Closing out the season, the Dolphins will host the game Sunday, scheduled for 1 p,m. ET. Here's a look at the fantasy names to consider:
JETS
Start 'em?: If you're trolling deep, Chris Ivory and Chris Johnson are both at least defensible choices at running back, but they're dodgy at best. ... Eric Decker is a reasonable flex option, though he doesn't have a whole lot of upside. ... Nick Folk 's a good kicker on a bad offense, but he has at least some upside.
Sit 'em: You can at least say that Geno Smith has three straight games of double-digit fantasy points, but he's averaged barely 12 in that time; he's nothing like a fantasy option. ... Even if he plays, at this point, Percy Harvin's floor outweighs his ceiling. ... The New York tight-end duo of Jace Amaro and Jeff Cumberland hasn't done enough to get any real fantasy consideration. ... The Jets' defense isn't a fantasy option.
DOLPHINS
Start 'em: It's been a hot couple of games for Mike Wallace. He's a strong WR2. ... Charles Clay has played himself back into starting TE territory.
Start 'em?: In theory, you'd love Ryan Tannehill this week against the Jets' defense, but he's disappointed in nice matchups before. He's just a QB2. ... Against a strong New York run defense, Lamar Miller might lack upside, but he's still got enough potential to be a No. 2 running back or decent flex option. ... Jarvis Landry just isn't accumulating enough yards to be a great fantasy option at this point, though if you're in a PPR league, he is catching a lot of passes. ... Caleb Sturgis ' numbers have fallen off of late; if you've been rolling with him, it might be time to look for another option. ... The Dolphins' defense has tanked in recent weeks, though it's at least got a nice matchup.
Sit 'em: Landry's rise has rendered Brian Hartline totally unusable.
SUMMARY
Start in every league: Mike Wallace, Charles Clay
Start if you're desperate: Chris Ivory, Chris Johnson, Eric Decker, Nick Folk, Ryan Tannehill, Lamar Miller, Jarvis Landry, Caleb Sturgis, Miami defense
Bench: Geno Smith, Percy Harvin, Jace Amaro, Jeff Cumberland, New York defense, Brian Hartline
