The Suns' point guard did not back down from his reported trade request.

NBA players who issue trade requests through sources or their agent normally say nothing publicly. Goran Dragic has decided to take a far different approach.

The Suns' point guard skipped practice Wednesday one day after it became known that he wanted out of Phoenix. Once reporters tracked him down, he not only confirmed he wants to leave, but said why.

Dragic also said that he didn't feel "comfortable" with the Suns' situation and is upset his role changed. He has a $7.5 million option that he can decline to become a free agent next summer and has delivered the Suns a list of destinations that includes the Miami Heat, New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers. The Suns have reportedly instead engaged with teams that have more assets -- Boston, Houston among them -- that aren't on Dragic's list.

Why doesn't Dragic trust the Suns' front office anymore? Most believe it's because they signed point guard Isaiah Thomas over the summer when they already had Dragic and Eric Bledsoe. Thomas has been good individually, but has been an awkward fit with Dragic, who has seen his role decline after earning third-team all-NBA honors last year.

But as Bright Side of the Sun notes, it may go deeper than that.

Since being formed in April 2013 with the hiring of Ryan McDonough and his brand new staff to join president Lon Babby, the Suns new front office has traded for PG Eric Bledsoe in 2013, drafted PG Tyler Ennis in 2014 and signed free agent PG Isaiah Thomas in 2014.

At the same time, the Suns have drafted two shooting guards (Archie Goodwin and Bogdan Bogdanovic), signed a third (his brother Zoran Dragic) and traded for two more (Gerald Green in 2013 and Reggie Bullock last month).

That's EIGHT new guards over 18 months who either play the position that Dragic wants or the position to which he has been moved.

The Suns also let close friends like Robin Lopez, Channing Frye and Jared Dudley go, which may contribute to Dragic's feelings. The Suns have 24 hours to decide whether to honor Dragic's request or keep him and hope he's bluffing.
