That and more in Monday's long NBA newsletter. SUBSCRIBE!

Good morning. Let's basketball.

NOTHING REALLY CHANGED: Paul Flannery goes deep on the lessons of the wild trade deadline but argues that despite the volume of moves nothing actually changed this season in a way that truly matters. The two teams that beefed up their rosters are No. 8 seeds. All true contenders stayed put or made minor adjustments at the deadline. That essay and the usual features are all in Sunday Shootaround. Check it out.

THE MOST FITTING CODA ON J.R. SMITH'S KNICKS CAREER: This dunk in New York on Sunday afternoon. That's right: J.R. was awake enough to do that in a day game after spending the night in NYC. That's how much more seriously he is taking his Cavaliers career as compared to his Knicks career. Speaking of the Cavs ...

IS THIS WHAT CHEMISTRY LOOKS LIKE? Or are LeBron and Love pretending to be buds for our benefit? They need curl their mustaches together or something. It's bad enough everyone on the Cavs bench loses it when Love misses a dunk badly.

CARLOS BOOZER SLIDES INTO YOUR ... Yeah, you know how this goes.

LIKE A BOSH: Chris Bosh will indeed sit out the remainder of the season after a blood clot was discovered in his lung. The Heat report that the prognosis is good, but that he can't play until it's all fixed. We all know he'll bounce back strong, like a Bosh.

THUNDER UP: Kevin Durant had a second procedure done on his foot to relieve some discomfort associated with a screw, and he'll be out at least a week. So Russell Westbrook just keeps on being ridiculous!

RICHARD JEFFERSON FOUND THE FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH: It's too bad history will deny this dunk due to a hyperactive ref waving it off. Check out the Charlotte bench reaction as Michael Kidd-Gilchrist's teammates cringe for him.

AMAZING: The Rihanna Effect, an infographic from Triangle Offense breaking down the impact of Rihanna at NBA games.

SHEESH: Anthony Davis is out 1-2 weeks with a reaggravated shoulder sprain. Ryan Anderson is out 2-4 weeks with a knee sprain. Jrue Holiday remains out. It's all on you, Tyreke.

NOW WE'VE GOT BAD BLOOD: Tayshaun Prince thought he was going to be bought out at the deadline. Instead, the Celtics shipped him to Detroit, which has no intention of waiving him. It seems like the C's might have AINGED Stan Van Gundy.

REMEMBERING KERSEY: Kerry Eggers' remembrance of Jerome Kersey is really lovely.

ANALYTICS FRW: The Hawks' huge improvement can be partially attributed to ... the team's dependence on analytics. Huh.

YES! Chris Ballard goes long on the Warriors.

BIGGER THAN BASKETBALL: Alex Len on the violence in his native Ukraine.

ON KG: Zach Harper wrote about Flip Saunders bringing Kevin Garnett back to Minnesota. Flannery and I also discussed the matter.

LARRY SANDERS IS OFFICIALLY DONE FOR NOW: He reached a buyout agreement with the Bucks and will try to get things together.

HOW IT ALL WENT WRONG IN OKC: Royce Young breaks down the falling out between Reggie Jackson and the Thunder.

INNOVATION IN RENO: Fascinating Les Carpenter piece on the experiment in Reno, where the Kings are seeing whether a high-octane, successful college system -- the Grinnell offense -- can work with professional players. (Results are mixed.) There's some odd provincialism and insecurity evident, but hey! My old pal Scott Schroeder gets quoted a bunch, and that can only be good.

FANTASTIC: Tyson Chandler breaks down the toughest bigs to guard in the game. This is so interesting and clear, which is actually semi-rare for Xs and Os analysis on the internet.

WHAT YOU NEEDED: Corbin Smith's Illustrated Guide to the Trade Deadline.

Happy Monday! See you next time.
