The Sharks and Kings will duke things out in an outdoor showcase, with the winner taking control of the second wild card spot in the Western Conference playoff race.

The San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings aren't exactly among the NHL's elite this year, but the two rivals are similarly matched and should provide a good matchup for the league's only Stadium Series game this season. The game will be held at the sparkling outdoor confines of Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. this Saturday.

Levi's Stadium is the home of the San Francisco 49ers. The facility is brand new, opening just last year, and is one of the most advanced stadiums in the world. It will be hosting a hockey game for the first time ever, if you couldn't have guessed -- an outdoor hockey game that has already sold out.

That means more than 69,000 fans will watch the game, which happens to feature two of the biggest rivals in the league. You can't do much better than the various Bay Area vs. Los Angeles rivalries, and San Jose won't exactly be far from home at Levi's Stadium.

The Kings and Sharks actually have a lot to play for Saturday beyond the spectacle of the Stadium Series. The two are fighting for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference. The Kings took it briefly Wednesday when they beat the Colorado Avalanche for their sixth straight win, but the Sharks took back the wild card spot on Thursday, beating the Dallas Stars to end a two-game skid.

The game is set for 10 p.m. ET on Saturday, and will be broadcast on NBCSN. There will be a live stream on NBC Sports Live Extra.
