The 55-year-old bench boss was none too please with the officiating on Saturday night.

The Detroit Red Wings beat the Dallas Stars on Saturday, 7-6, thanks to an overtime goal from Nicklas Kronwall. The contest was messy, to say the least, and according to Dallas head coach Lindy Ruff, so was the officiating.

After pulling Jimmy Howard for an extra skater, Detroit tied the game at six with less than two minutes left in regulation when Pavel Datsyuk found the back of the net. Ruff believes goalie interference should have been called before Datsyuk converted, however, as Justin Abdelkader pushed Kari Lehtonen in the crease. It's unlikely the Wings would have scored had Lehtonen been left untouched.

But no one blew his whistle, and, of course, the Red Wings earned the victory shortly thereafter. The Stars also believe a penalty should have been called earlier when Alex Goligoski was upended, but the refs levied no punishment. So it goes.

Here's footage of the play in question:

After the final horn, Ruff didn't mince any words.

"It's inexcusable. There's no explanation," he said at his post-game press conference. "It ruined a hell of a hockey game. Bottom line."

The Stars, who have fallen far short of expectations this year, are now 27-23-9, good for 11th place in the Western Conference. Saturday's brutal loss is yet another tough pill to swallow as a playoff berth continues to slip away.
