Jarome Iginla was looking for a multi-year deal, and got that and then some from Colorado.

It's been a strange 48 hours for the Colorado Avalanche. It began with trading P.A. Parenteau to the Canadiens for Daniel Briere. Then today, the Avs lost their top center and one of the top forwards in all of free agency when Paul Stastny signed in St. Louis.

Colorado stayed busy on Tuesday, signing free agent forward Jarome Iginla to a 3-year deal.

After scoring 30 goals with the Bruins last season, it looked like Boston would be unwilling to match the kind of offers Iginla would get on the open market, and it's clear why. Iginla's production hasn't really dipped, but for a player who just turned 37 (today) this deal will take Iginla into his 40's, and still carry a pretty significant cap hit. Iginla will carry the third-highest cap hit among Colorado forwards, only behind Matt Duchene and Gabriel Landeskog.
