Ballard missed most of last year with an ACL tear.
Colts training camp started this week, and before it's really gotten under way, the team already has some bad news. Running back Vick Ballard was carted off the field today after sustaining what may have been a non-contact ankle injury during practice.

Folks, I don't have many details on Ballard yet. Looked to be an ankle injury that happened in non-contact drill. Stay tuned. #Colts

That's a tough break for Ballard, who has dealt with a knee injury in the past year. He tore his ACL in practice during week two of last season and missed the rest of the year. Now, he was supposed to return and give Indianapolis some running back depth, but this could put a dent in that plan before it even begins.
In his first season in Indianapolis, Ballard rushed for 814 yards on 211 carries. Without him, the Colts traded for Trent Richardson, who may need to take the bulk of the carries once again.
