The longtime defensive coach is reunited with Gary Kubiak in Denver.

The Denver Broncos released their entire coaching staff at the end of the 2014 season. Now, in addition to selecting a head coach and offensive coordinator, the team has settled on Wade Phillips to run the defense, according to a report by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Phillips' hiring comes just weeks after the Broncos tabbed Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak as the team's new head coach. In the time since, Kubiak picked Baltimore colleague Rick Dennison to coordinate the offense. As both Kubiak and Dennison come from offensive backgrounds, Phillips will likely have a fair amount of autonomy in Denver.

Phillips was defensive coordinator in Denver from 1989-1992, and coached the Broncos in 1993-1994.

Phillips brings with him a wealth of experience coaching defenses. He has served as defensive coordinator for a number of NFL teams dating back to 1981. His most recent post was with the Houston Texans where he helped develop J.J. Watt into a monster and perennial Defensive Player of the Year candidate. Kubiak was the Texans' head coach at the time. Phillips has also served as a head coach multiple times, most recently with the Dallas Cowboys.
