The second round of the Summer League tournament in Las Vegas gives us some pretty tasty matchups, including Dante Exum facing the Spurs and Andrew Wiggins taking on Houston.
The seventh day of the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas features some pretty exciting matchups, even if guys like Jabari Parker, Julius Randle and T.J. Warren have already been eliminated for good. Let's take a look at Thursday's games before we head to the quarterfinals this weekend.
Hornets vs. Pelicans, 4 p.m. ET
Players to watch: The Hornets have two first-round picks on their Summer League roster in Noah Vonleh and P.J. Hairston. While Hairston leads the team in scoring at 16.3 points per game, he's shooting just 26.5 percent from the field. Vonleh isn't faring much better, shooting just 27.5 percent. On a more positive note, Cody Zeller is averaging 15.5 points on 63.2 percent shooting, although he has only played in two games. The Pelicans have been led by DeQuan Jones and Courtney Fells, who have both shot the ball at a high level. Russ Smith hasn't shot well, but he's averaging 13.3 points, 7.7 assists and 6.0 rebounds.
Timberwolves vs. Kings, 4:30 p.m.
Players to watch: Wolves second-year big man Gorgui Dieng has been superb, averaging 10.5 points and 10.0 rebounds while shooting 53.3 percent from the field. Shabazz Muhammad is scoring 14.3 points per game in Vegas, but he's shooting just 33.3 percent. Zach LaVine is averaging 14.0 points and has some highlight reel plays to his name, however, he's shooting only 38.0 percent. For the Kings, Ben McLemore and Nik Stauskas have both been promising. McLemore leads the team at 13.3 points per game, while Stauskas is right behind at 13.0 points per game. The rookie out of Michigan is shooting 48.1 percent overall and 55.6 percent from long range.
Spurs vs. Jazz, 6 p.m.
Players to watch: Austin Daye leads the Spurs with averages of 12.8 points and 7.3 rebounds, although he's shooting just 32.0 percent. First-round pick Kyle Anderson has been up-and-down, with averages of 7.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists. Deshaun Thomas is putting up 10 points per game. Jazz rookie Dante Exum has been a mixed bag, with modest averages of 7.3 points and 3.0 assists. Fellow first-round pick Rodney Hood leads the team in scoring at 13.7 points per game, although much of his scoring came in one big game. Second-year man Rudy Gobert is shooting a ridiculous 90.9 percent from the field, while Trey Burke is at just 32.1 percent.
Trail Blazers vs. Hawks, 6:30 p.m.
Players to watch: The most intriguing guy from this rematch of Tuesday's action is undoubtedly Trail Blazers guard C.J. McCollum, who went off for 28 points when these teams played earlier this week. McCollum is averaging 21.0 points in Vegas. Between him and a pair of other former lottery picks, Thomas Robinson and Meyers Leonard, Portland boasts a pretty impressive Summer League squad for a team that made the playoffs last year. The Hawks, meanwhile, have Dennis Schroder coming off a solid effort in the team's win over Golden State on Wednesday, along with 2014 first-rounder Adreian Payne. Schroder is putting up 17.8 points per game.
Rockets vs. Cavaliers, 8 p.m.
Players to watch: Any time that Andrew Wiggins takes the court for Cleveland this summer is worth watching, and this matchup against Houston is no different. Wiggins has struggled with his shot, but he's averaging 13.7 points and has made some spectacular plays. Even though the Rockets don't have any big-name prospects of Wiggins' caliber, they did a nice job of beating the Raptors in their first elimination game on Wednesday. Isaiah Canaan and Donatas Motiejunas have been Houston's best players, while former Arizona star Nick Johnson will likely be matched up with the No. 1 overall pick.
Heat vs. Wizards, 8:30 p.m.
Players to watch: Justin Hamilton has lit it up for Miami in two games, averaging 19.5 points and 6.0 rebounds while shooting 70.8 percent. On the other end of the spectrum, rookie Shabazz Napier has really struggled. Napier is averaging 9.0 points on 27.6 percent shooting. James Nunnally is shooting 75.0 percent overall and 70.0 percent from three. Glen Rice Jr. and Otto Porter have been the stars of the show for Washington. Rice is scoring 22.7 points per game on a stellar 50.0 percent shooting, while Porter is at 19.0 points per game on 53.3 percent shooting.
76ers vs. Bulls, 10 p.m.
Players to watch: Jordan McRae is putting up 19.7 points per game, but he missed the last contest with a sprained ankle. Fellow rookie K.J. McDaniels has also been dealing with an ankle injury, which has kept him out of Summer League. Nerlens Noel has been in and out of the lineup as he works himself back into game shape following his knee injury. Noel has shown some flashes of his immense potential, and he's averaging 3.0 blocks in Vegas. The Bulls have been dominant thus far in Summer League, mostly thanks to Tony Snell and Doug McDermott. Snell leads the squad at 20.7 points per game, and he's shooting 52.2 percent from three. McDermott is at 20.3 points per game and 52.4 percent shooting from long range.
D-League Select vs. Knicks, 10:30 p.m.
Players to watch: Tony Mitchell has been strong for the D-League Select team, scoring 18.8 points per game. Tim Hardaway Jr. has led the Knicks with 20.7 points per game. Hardaway is shooting just 41.9 percent overall, but he's at a solid 39.1 percent mark from three. Rookie Cleanthony Early has had his moments, averaging 12.0 points and 3.5 rebounds. Cole Aldrich is averaging 9.0 points and 15.0 rebounds, while Jeremy Tyler is putting up 11.3 points and 5.7 rebounds.
