The leader at the British Open has avoided the damage from a couple bad drives on the front nine of his third round, including one directly into a golf cart.
Royal Liverpool is playing easier than it has all week, but we're still getting several messy shots from the final group. Dustin Johnson went 30 holes without making a bogey, then dropped shots on back-to-back holes after some sloppy play. He has lost his form for the moment.
Rory McIlroy has sprayed a few as well, but mostly mitigated the damage with some solid recovery work and steady putting, particularly with a world-class save at No. 7. On the 9th, Rory got fortunate again when he bombed a double-cross way off the fairway and directly into a golf cart carrying an ESPN camera.
Rory would take a nice little drop from the cart, however, and catch a perfect lie. He got smoothly up-and-down for what Paul Azinger called a "miracle par." So far, McIlroy is staying out in front by multiple shots with some great recoveries and a bit of good fortune.
He's still at 12-under for the tournament, three shots clear of Rickie Fowler and Sergio Garcia as he hits the back nine.
