SB Nation Recruiting was in attendance at the Texas State 7-on-7 tournament and has updates on many of the top prospects who made their way to College Station

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- After producing current Texas Tech Red Raiders linebacker Mike Mitchell in the 2013 recruiting class, Plano (Texas) Prestonwood has another talented linebacker coming through the ranks in 2016 prospect Deonte Williams.

The 6'1, 218-pounder spoke with SB Nation Recruiting at the Texas State 7-on-7 tournament last week in College Station

Despite early offers from Baylor and TCU, Williams maintains that neither one is standing out to him at this time.

"I'm just working on getting better stats and working hard," said Williams.

The Horned Frogs play the same defense that Williams operates in at Prestonwood and on a recent trip down to the TCU campus, which he said was nice, he got to know the coaching staff better.

"I felt at home there," he said.

Williams hasn't had a chance to visit the campus in Waco yet, but he has taken notice of the recent Baylor success on the gridiron and said he does have some interest in the program.

Growing up in the Metroplex, it would be easy to assume that Williams grew up a fan of the Horned Frogs, but he said that wasn't the case -- he was Seminoles fan.

So what's the tie to Florida State?

Williams grew up following the garnet and gold because his father played at Florida State. As a result, the elder Williams has relationships with the current coaches in Tallahassee and has let them know about his son.

And multiple visits to the city in the past have helped Williams gain a deep familiarity with Tallahassee and the campus.

The Prestonwood product believes that Florida State could be close to offering, along with the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Texas A&M and Arkansas are two schools that Williams said he would like to hear from as his recruitment progresses.
