The Raiders hold the first overall selection, but would they take a quarterback after picking Derek Carr in the second round this year?
Through eight weeks of the regular season, the 2015 NFL Draft order is starting to take form.
With an 0-7 record, the Oakland Raiders currently hold the top pick. Should Oakland finish with the worst record in the league, a tough decision will have to be made. Is Derek Carr, the team’s second-round pick this year, the future at quarterback? Considering Carr will have a full season as a starter, they should have a good idea.
The Jacksonville Jaguars, current owners of the No. 2 pick, will face the same quandary, though it’s unlikely they’d move on from Blake Bortles after one season.
Despite having the same record, the Jaguars are ahead of the New York Jets in the draft order due to strength of schedule. For this draft order, entire season strength of schedule is used. The team with the lower strength of schedule receive a higher pick than a team with the same record.
This, of course, will change dramatically over the next several weeks. That's particularly true since teams have byes through Week 12.
If teams have the same record and strength of schedule, division record is used if they’re in the same division. If those are all equal, conference record is used if they’re in the same conference. If teams in two difference conferences have the same record and strength of schedule, draft order is determined by a coin flip at the NFL Scouting Combine. Easy enough, right?
