They may have won 4-0 away at Galatasaray midweek, but Borussia Dortmund have lost three in a row in the Bundesliga. They host Hannover 96 Saturday looking to turn it around.
Lingering in 14th in the Bundesliga, it hasn't been an ideal start to the season for Borussia Dortmund. They may be the hottest team in the Champions League, but there have been a multitude of problems in the league. Seven points from eight matches has the Ruhr club hovering two points above the relegation places. They will try to correct that at home against Hannover 96 on Saturday.
Hannover 96 have made an average start to the season, in tenth with ten points. Manager Tayfun Korkut's record since taking over last year on New Year's Eve is 11 wins, 4 draws and 11 losses. He will be hoping to outsmart Jürgen Klopp and continue to add to his opponents misery. It will be a difficult task going to Signal Iduna Park, and the 80 thousand Schwarzegelben fans they will face.
Hannover will go with a 4-4-2, and Dortmund will be forced to take the game to their opponents. Having Ilkay Gündogan back in the side adds some creativity and flair to their passing game, which will be needed to break down the Hannover defence.
Due to the injuries to the Hannover fullbacks, Dortmund should look to attack down the flanks more often than usual. The quality of Marco Reus and Henrikh Mkhitaryan really could stand out in this match.
Injuries and Suspensions:
Borussia Dortmund
Out: Sven Bender (Elbow), Marcel Schmelzer (hand), Nuri Sahin (Knee).
Hannover 96
Out: Lars Stindl (knee), Andre Hoffmann (knee). In doubt: Hiroki Sakai (calf), Christian Pander (stomach flu) Miiko Albornoz (achilles).
Losing captain Stindl is a big blow for Hannover. They will miss his creative influence in the attacking areas. The loss of Hoffmann may be felt more though, as the centre back is a quality defender, always in demand against a team with attackers like Dortmund. Hannover face a serious issue at the back, as both fullbacks that started the previous match may miss. If Hiroki Sakai can't go at right back, manager Korkut may have some issues as someone will be forced to play out of position. Left back Christian Pander had a sickness Thursday, and most likely will miss. Pander was only filling in for regular left back Miiko Albornoz, who remains sidelined with an achilles problem. A central defender will have to slide over.
Sven Bender is the latest player on the training table for Dortmund. He hurt his elbow Wednesday night in Turkey, and it still hasn't been determined how long he is out for. Nuri Sahin is still out following a September knee operation, but is not far off from a return.
Projected lineups
