Ventura's outing is being somewhat lost in the shuffle of the Royals' offensive explosion.
Royals rookie Yordano Ventura has kept the Giants off the board through the first five innings in Game 6 of the World Series. Kansas City owns an 8-0 lead.
Ventura has worked around three walks to shut down the Giants thanks in part to four strikeouts and seven ground-ball outs. The 23-year-old right-hander has given up just two runs in 10⅓ innings this series. He owns a 2.74 ERA in four starts this postseason.
Every Giants pitcher who has appeared in the game has allowed at least one run. Jake Peavy surrendered five in just 1⅓ innings of work. Yusmeiro Petit, who had not given up a run in 12 postseason innings before Game 6, was touched up for two runs on three hits while recording only two outs.
The Royals have outhit the Giants, 12-2. Lorenzo Cain, Eric Hosmer and Salvador Perez have two hits apiece. Cain has knocked in three runs.
Prior to Tuesday, home teams were 15-2 when starting a rookie pitcher in the World Series, per the FOX broadcast.
