The Hawks look to go up 2-0 against the Nets.
The Atlanta Hawks lead the Brooklyn Nets in the first-round series, 1-0, but they haven't turned everyone into believers yet after an incredible regular season. The team will get another chance Wednesday night in Game 2 against Brooklyn at Philips Arena.
The Hawks rolled into the playoffs with a conference-leading 60 wins after clinching the East's top seed weeks ago. That made the playoff opener the team's first truly meaningful game in a long time. At times, it showed, as the Nets kept things close throughout the contest.
Kyle Korver led the team with 21 points on 6-of-12 shooting, but overall the Hawks shot just 43 percent from the field in Game 1. They let a double-digit first-half lead dwindle down to three in the third quarter, and got beat on the boards, 47-39.
It wasn't the dominant performance you'd expect from a 60-win team facing a 38-win team in the playoffs, but Atlanta didn't sound alarmed. The Hawks are a veteran team with a balanced lineup and a smart coach in Mike Budenholzer who can manage them through the situation.
The team will need to play better if it wants to make a run to the Finals, though, and they seemed aware of that even after starting the playoffs with a win. We'll see if they bring more Wednesday night.
