Blake Bortles has been impressive in the preseason so far, and will get one more chance on Thursday to make an impression on his coaches. We break down the fantasy implications.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have been slowly bringing along Blake Bortles in training camp, but the rookie quarterback continues to impress in preseason. Playing mostly with the second team behind veteran Chad Henne, Bortles has completed 62.2 percent of his passes for 435 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions on 45 attempts, good for a sterling 9.67 yards per attempt.
Head coach Gus Bradley has already named Henne the Week 1 starter, but Bortles is expected to get the majority of playing time in Thursday's preseason finale against the Atlanta Falcons.
Fantasy impact: Henne has been perfectly competent on his own, but he's not the most inspiring choice to lead an offense. Bortles, while still raw, has shown impressive poise and touch on his passes, proving that he might be ready to start sooner than expected.
Fantasy owners can afford to wait on Bortles, who is a valuable dynasty hold for 2015 and beyond. In the meantime, look for the Jags to force-feed Toby Gerhart, who has RB2 upside on pure volume alone. Marqise Lee is a potential PPR sleeper -- he has been playing out of the slot in preseason and is seeing lots of high-percentage targets.
