Florida State was a huge favorite every game last year, and 2014 is shaping up the same. They are -17 against Oklahoma State this weekend.
The Florida State Seminoles will begin the defense of their national championship as 17.5-point favorites against the Oklahoma State Cowboys in their season opener at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
The Seminoles marched to the national title last season with a perfect 14-0 record and start the 2014 campaign as 4/1 favorites to repeat. They are prohibitive 1/3 chalk to repeat as conference champs.
Topping the AP Top 25 preseason rankings, Florida State will once again be led by Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Jameis Winston. A 9/2 favorite to win a second straight Heisman, Winston threw for 4,057 yards and 40 touchdowns in 2013, capped by an MVP performance in the national championship game, where he threw for 237 yards and two TDs.
Joining Winston on the list of players sporting early Heisman Trophy odds is Seminoles running back Karlos Williams. The 6'1 senior moves into a starting role at Florida State after leading the team in yards per carry (8.0) as a backup in 2013, and is a 33/1 bet in Heisman Trophy wagering.
Oklahoma State, who open their 2014 campaign outside the AP Top 25, will look to get back on track following a disappointing end to their 2013 season. The Cowboys, whose ranking peaked at No. 6 in Week 15 last season, looked poised to compete for the Big 12 conference title after starting their season with a record of 10-1 SU. But those hopes were dashed following a 33-24 loss to No. 18 Oklahoma in the regular season finale, followed by a 41-31 loss to No. 5 Missouri in the Cotton Bowl, the third time they had lost outright after being favored, dropping their record to 8-5 ATS.
Following the departure of 30 seniors from last season's squad, Oklahoma State's national championship and Big 12 championship odds have understandably tumbled. The Cowboys sit at a long 150/1 in national championship betting, and 12/1 in Big 12 conference betting, placing them in the middle of the pack, well back of 4/5 favorites Oklahoma.
In line with their college football futures betting odds, the betting line on the Cowboys' 2014 regular season win total is currently set at 7.5, with the UNDER favored by moneyline odds of 4/5.
