Matt Kenseth led a strong showing for Joe Gibbs Racing in Bristol qualifying.

Matt Kenseth will lead the field to the green flag in Sunday's Food City 500 having captured the pole in qualifying Friday at Bristol Motor Speedway.

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver who is a three-time Bristol winner, posted a lap of 128.632 mph to edge Brad Keselowski for the No. 1 starting position. The pole was Kenseth's first of the season and 13th of his career.

Kenseth's teammate Carl Edwards qualified third, followed by Kevin Harvick and Denny Hamlin.

Joey Logano, who paced the first two sessions, Kurt Busch, Kasey Kahne, Paul Menard and Jamie McMurray completed the top 10 qualifiers. Overall, the first eight starters are all former Bristol winners.

A host of big names struggled in the three-round session, with Danica Patrick (qualified 26th), Jimmie Johnson (28th), Greg Biffle (33rd) and Clint Bowyer (37th) all failing to advance past Round 1.
