Jordan Morris, Emerson Hyndman and Rubio Rubin among six players who could get first-ever caps.
As expected, Jurgen Klinsmann appears to be using the United States' Sept. 3 friendly against the Czech Republic in order to get a look at some new faces. The 22-man roster that was announced on Thursday will include 15 players who are 24 or younger, 11 players with 10 or fewer caps and six players who could potentially make their USMNT debuts. Just 10 players from the most recent World Cup roster were called in for this game.
"We look at this as the start of our project towards Russia in 2018, and in this first step we get to look at many of our talented young players based in Europe," Klinsmann said in a release. "We have some great youngsters coming through the ranks that are starting to break through with their clubs teams and are ready to challenge for spots on the Senior Team, and even most of our World Cup veterans from Brazil on this roster will be coming into the prime of their careers in the next four years, so this is an exciting opportunity."
Among the more notable inclusions were college sophomore Jordan Morris (Stanford), Fulham midfielder Emerson Hyndman and recently signed Utrecht forward Rubio Rubin.
The vast majority of the players are based in Europe, with Nick Rimando the only MLS representative and Greg Garza and Michael Orozco being the only players based in Mexico.
