Hart Trophy 2014: Sidney Crosby named NHL's most valuable player

Sidney Crosby finished with 128 of the 137 first-place votes for the Hart Trophy.

It was a foregone conclusion, but the 2014 NHL Awards show on Tuesday night made it official: Sidney Crosby is the most valuable player in hockey. The Pittsburgh Penguins superstar had an unbelievable 2013-14 campaign, scoring 36 goals and 68 assists for 104 points in total, 16 more than any other player in hockey.

Crosby wins the Hart Trophy for the second time in his career. He previously won the trophy in 2006-07, just his second year in the league. He still has quite a way to go to catch Wayne Gretzky's nine Hart Trophy wins, but that obviously takes nothing away from Crosby's accomplishments in his still-young career.

This year, Crosby beat out Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux and Anaheim Ducks star Ryan Getzlaf to win, and it really wasn't even close. The Professional Hockey Writers' Association voted for the award, and here's the full vote tally:
