Choosing between spilling your beer and trying to catch a foul ball is one of the most difficult choices a person has to make in life. In its most distilled form we have the essence of "a bird in the hand." One fan in Boston didn't choose a side, he rose up, caught the ball one-handed and then finished with a good guy flourish by passing it to a child.
You've got to applaud his quick decision making. This man had to make the choice between potentially losing his overpriced ballpark brew, or passing up on a memento and story that can last generations. In the end he played it perfectly.
