Charles Sims is back at practice after missing half the season with ankle surgery and has a chance to play this week. We break down the fantasy implications.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Charles Sims is nearly recovered from ankle surgery and head coach Lovie Smith says he "has a chance" to make his NFL debut against the Cleveland Browns in Week 9.
Sims is a third-round pick out of West Virginia. He has yet to play after suffering a fractured ankle in the preseason. The Bucs placed him on the injured reserve/designated to return list, and while he's eligible to practice they haven't activated him yet.
Fantasy impact: Whether it's this week or next, Sims is making his debut soon. He will have a decent chance to win the starting job in Tampa's sputtering running game. Doug Martin continues to disappoint and was the subject of trade rumors before Tuesday's deadline, while Bobby Rainey hasn't shown he can be much more than a complementary back. Sims excelled as a pass catcher at West Virginia and could see enough targets to be on the PPR map. He should be owned in all fantasy leagues as a player who can make a difference during the late-season stretch run.
