Daniels made a surprise return to practice less than a week after getting his knee scoped. We break down the fantasy implications.
Baltimore Ravens tight end Owen Daniels returned to practice on Wednesday. This comes less than a week after undergoing knee surgery, suggesting that Daniels is on track to make his return against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 9.
Daniels missed practice last week before having his knee scoped on Friday. It was described as a "clean-up procedure" and he wasn't expected to miss more than one game. Crockett Gillmore got the start against the Cincinnati Bengals, finishing with two catches for 23 yards in a losing effort. Daniels had been the starting tight end since Dennis Pitta was lost for the year due to hip surgery. He has 27 catches for 275 yards and three touchdowns in seven games.
Fantasy impact: Knee scopes typically take much longer than one week from which to recover, so it's somewhat of a surprise to see Daniels back so soon. His status is worth monitoring over the rest of the week -- it's still no guarantee he'll suit up in Week 9. More of a low-end TE2 at this point, Daniels is not a must-hold in 12-team leagues.
