Liverpool have raided Southampton yet again, this time bringing Croatian centre half Dejan Lovren to Anfield. The defender, 25, has officially made the switch to Anfield, ending a reasonably protracted transfer saga which ended up costing the Reds £20 million.

Brendan Rodgers will be hoping that Lovren shores up his shaky defence. Liverpool's title hopes faltered mainly thanks to their inability to keep other teams from finding the net, and the acquisition of Lovren should help shore things up. But he cost a lot of money, and adding another centre back doesn't fix the team's primary problem -- they'll still be exposed in midfield, and not even the best defenders in the world tend to handle that well.

Liverpool haven't confirmed the length of Lovren's new contract, but rumours from earlier in the summer suggest a four-year deal. He joins former teammates Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana at Anfield, and with Luke Shaw also departing St. Mary's this summer it's difficult to see Southampton remaining in midtable unless they spend them money they've received for that quartet wisely.
