July 4 MLB national TV schedule

Three baseball games will be televised nationally on July 4, beginning at 11 a.m. ET in our nation's capital.

Nothing says July 4 like fireworks, hot dogs and baseball, so sit back and enjoy your Independence Day with a trio of major league games televised nationally. So when you're not outside near a grill or in a pool on Friday, you can turn up the air conditioning inside and sit down and watch some baseball. Here is your July 4 MLB schedule (all times ET):

11 a.m. - Cubs at Nationals (WGN, MLB Network)

On the surface this looks like a game between two evenly-matched pitchers, with Chicago's a Jason Hammel and Washington's a Tanner Roark both 7-5 with a 2.98 ERA in 16 starts, but as we dig deeper we find out Roark owns a commanding lead in ERA, 2.9799 to Hammel's 2.9805.

3 p.m. - Yankees at Twins (ESPN2, Watch ESPN)

The long awaited contest between Chase Whitley and Kyle Gibson will be called by Steve Levy, Eduardo Perez and Tim Kurkjian. ESPN Deportes will also televise the game, with Ernesto Jerez and Guillermo Celis behind the mic.

7 p.m. - Rays at Tigers (ESPN, Watch ESPN)

The American League's two hottest teams meet in Detroit in the second game of a four-game series. The Tigers won 11 of 13 games before Thursday's series opener, while the Rays entered the series with five straight wins and seven victories in their last eight contests. Drew Smyly starts for Detroit, facing Alex Cobb. Jon Sciambi, Rick Sutcliffe and Doug Glanville will call the game for ESPN, with Eduardo Varela and Fernando Alvarez on the call for ESPN Deportes.
