The top two pitchers in the NL go toe-to-toe in a rematch of the 2013 NLCS.
Any time Clayton Kershaw and Adam Wainwright take the mound, it's a big occasion. When they face each other, it's downright exhilarating.
But when the two best pitchers in the senior circuit square off in the postseason? It's an absolute must-watch event. That's what baseball fans will get in Game 1 of the National League Division Series between the Cardinals and Dodgers on Friday in Los Angeles.
Kershaw more than likely locked up his third Cy Young award by posting a 1.77 ERA and striking out a career-high 10.8 batters per nine innings during the regular season. Wainwright was no slouch himself, tossing 227 innings and finishing with a 2.38 ERA.
The Cardinals have not lost a division series since 2009, when Kershaw's Dodgers earned a 3-0 sweep before falling to the Phillies in the NLCS. The Dodgers have made it to the NLCS in each of their last three trips to the postseason, and last lost in the LDS round in 2006.
