The 2013 AL Cy Young winner will square off against the man who has been the Orioles' best pitcher for two years running.
The Orioles' quest to reach the World Series for the first time since 1983 begins on Thursday with Game 1 of the American League Division Series against the Tigers at Camden Yards in Baltimore.
Baltimore won that Fall Classic back in 1983, defeating the Phillies in five games behind World Series MVP Rick Dempsey. It has been 17 years since the Orioles have even appeared in the ALCS, a round that their opponents from Detroit have reached in each of the last three seasons, and four time since 2006.
Chris Tillman, who posted a 3.34 ERA in a league-leading 34 starts during the regular season, will be on the mound for the Orioles opposite 2013 AL Cy Young winner Max Scherzer. The Tigers' ace struck out more than 10 batters per nine innings for the third consecutive season and eclipsed 220 innings for the first time in his career.
The Tigers beat the Orioles in five of six games in 2014, including a three-game sweep at Camden Yards from May 12-14.
