Club America weren't in need of a result on Saturday, with Liguilla qualification already assured. Chivas Guadalajara can't make the playoffs, while any point is a good point for them in their ongoing fight to stay above the relegation spot. As expected, this resulted in a game light on action, and their 0-0 draw was almost unwatchable at times.
The biggest event of the first half was a missed call by the official. In the 35th minute, America defender Paul Aguilar used his forearm to clear a cross away, but despite having a clear look at the incident, the referee didn't give a penalty. There was also an injury, with Jair Pereira needing to go off in the 23rd minute, with Hedgardo Marin replacing him
Play was pretty much confined to the center of the pitch, and neither team had the quality to test their opposing goalkeeper with the half-chances that they did generate. America's Oribe Peralta came closest to scoring, forcing Toño Rodriguez into an excellent save off a cross by Rubens Sambueza in the 82nd minute. It was the only above-average save that either keeper needed to make in the match.
It was a poor game, and ultimately, not worth anyone's time.
