The Heisman contender went down in a tight game against the Buckeyes' archrivals.

Star Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback J.T. Barrett suffered an injury early in the fourth quarter against Michigan. He found himself in a pileup, and it was hard to tell exactly what happened, but he landed awkwardly. Shortly after being examined, Barrett was carted off the field with his leg in an aircast.

The first-year starter had emerged as one of the country's best quarterbacks, stepping in for Braxton Miller, who was hurt in preseason camp.

The lightly experienced Cardale Jones stepped in for Barrett, with the No. 6 Buckeyes leading, 28-21, and about 14 minutes left to go.

Two weeks ago, Barrett ranked No. 3 in Bovada's Heisman Trophy odds. He was since taken off the board due to Melvin Gordon's emergence and Marcus Mariota's clear lead, but there's no question his loss to injury would be one of the most damaging that could possibly happen to any team in the country.

We'll update as soon as more information is available.
