Doug Martin is listed as doubtful for Week 9 with an ankle injury. We break down the fantasy implications.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns. Martin is dealing with an ankle injury, and while the "doubtful" tag is still supposed to denote a 25-percent chance of playing, it's a foregone conclusion that Martin will not be active.
Martin sustained the injury against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 8 after picking up just 27 yards on 10 carries. He missed two games earlier in the season as well, and has not played well when active. Martin has just 58 carries for 166 yards and a touchdown on the season. That's a per-carry average of 2.9 yards. Bobby Rainey has carries the load ahead of him, with 287 yards and a touchdown on 62 carries -- a per-carry average of 4.6 yards.
Fantasy Impact: Martin won't play in this game and fantasy owners will once again need to turn to Rainey. He's a decent fantasy option, though fantasy owners should probably be looking for something a little more permanent. In other words, Martin has been bad this season and won't have much fantasy value even when he returns from his injuries.
