The bye weeks are finally over. Which quarterbacks should you be looking at for the stretch run?
The bye weeks are over and it's time to start the mad dash towards the fantasy playoffs. By now most owners should have their quarterback position settled and the waiver wire is pretty slim pickings right now, but if injuries have struck you or you're just looking for an edge in the final weeks, here are some players worth taking a look at. These quarterbacks are all owned in 50 percent or more of Yahoo! leagues.
Josh McCown, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (33 percent) -- McCown is still a middling quarterback, but he keeps racking up the yards. McCown had his second 300-yard game in three weeks, throwing for 341 yards and a touchdown on 25-of-48 passing against the Chicago Bears. He did toss two picks and the fact that McCown got 48 passing attempts says way more about the Bucs' running game, but those are acceptable QB2 numbers. He gets a matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals next week.
Drew Stanton, Arizona Cardinals (10 percent) -- Stanton took a pretty big step backwards in a tough road matchup with the Seattle Seahawks. He threw for just 149 yards on 14-of-26 passing and an interception as the Cardinals failed to find the end zone. Stanton didn't look great, but he has bounce-back potential against the Atlanta Falcons and might have Larry Fitzgerald back. He's mostly a plug-and-play option and shouldn't be an every-week starter in 12-team leagues.
Teddy Bridgewater, Minnesota Vikings (seven percent) -- The rookie did what he could in a narrow loss to the Green Bay Packers, throwing two touchdowns and an interception while recording 210 passing yards. It was another mediocre performance with just 5.7 yards per carry. At this point, Bridgewater is more of a dynasty stash than real starting option in re-draft leagues, though he has a decent fantasy floor if you're desperate in two-quarterback leagues. He'll be a QB2 against a Carolina Panthers team ranked 26th in pass defense.
Zach Mettenberger, Tennessee Titans (four percent) -- The lead-footed rookie can be pretty hard to watch in an age of young, exciting dual-threat quarterbacks, but the yardage is there. Mettenberger racked up 345 yards, two touchdowns and an interception against the Philadelphia Eagles. He'll get another tough matchup with the Houston Texans who blew out the Titans in Week 8, but Mettenberger still got 299 yards and two scores in that game. Garbage-time stat inflation should be enough to keep him on the high-end QB2 radar.
Colt McCoy, Washington (one percent) -- It seems like only a matter of time before Washington moves on from Robert Griffin III. Griffin was named the Week 13 starter but he's a constant risk to be benched during games if he continues his poor play. McCoy is hardly the long-term answer in D.C. but he acquitted himself well in his Week 8 start, throwing for 299 yards on 25-of-30 passing against the Dallas Cowboys. It's doubtful that Washington will turn back to McCoy soon, so he's just a speculative add as the team plays out the string in yet another lost season.
