The rookie quarterback put up a lot of yards Sunday. We break down the fantasy implications.
In his fourth career start, Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Zach Mettenberger put up his biggest passing numbers yet on Sunday. Mettenberger also had his highest fantasy point total as the Titans lost to the Philadelphia Eagles, 43-24.
Mettenberger completed 20-of-39 pass attempts Sunday for 345 yards and two touchdowns, one each to Justin Hunter and Dexter McCluster. He also threw one interception. In his first three starts, Mettenberger had averaged 13.3 fantasy points a game, with a high of 16, before putting up 19 in Sunday's game.
Fantasy impact: Mettenberger hasn't been spectacular as the Tennessee starter, but he's shown enough -- and improved enough -- that the team should have reason for optimism down the road out of the position. The Titans cycled through Jake Locker and Charlie Whitehurst at the quarterback this season, but decided neither one had much future with the team, while Mettenberger might.
Ultimately, this doesn't mean a lot for 2014 fantasy football. It's hard to picture a situation when anyone would use Mettenberger as their fantasy quarterback unless they had no other choice. But for deep keeper/dynasty leagues, he's clearly worth a pickup.
