Spanish football is back as the title race picks back up and Real Sociedad debuts their new head coach.
After two long, horrible weeks filled with international friendlies and few Euro 2016 qualifiers, club football is back in Spain ... and not a moment too soon!
There are some interesting games in the title race this weekend but the biggest story by far is the arrival of David Moyes as the new head coach of Real Sociedad. This is Moyes' first coaching job since he was dismissed from Manchester United late last season and he has one big task ahead of him: keep La Real from getting relegated. At the moment, La Real is in 15th place, one of five teams at the bottom of the league with nine points.
Given Moyes had success at Everton getting the most out of his players and being competitive on a limited budget, he seems like a good hire for the club. The question which will get answered over the coming weeks and months is how a coach known for his stiff, defensive 4-4-2 formation will translate to Spain.
He'll have to hit the ground running though as La Real faces Depor in an important game between two relegation battlers.
Up at the top of La Liga Real Madrid sit two points clear of Barcelona in the title race. Luka Modrić was injured over the break and will miss three months, so it will be interesting to see how that affects the Madrid midfield and their great form overall. Eibar should give them a bit of a test, but this is a very winnable game for Los Blancos.
Barcelona meanwhile must tangle with fifth-place Sevilla in a tricky match for the Blaugrana. Barcelona were not impressive in their last league match before the break, squeaking past Almería 2-1. Barca's form of late hasn't been great and Sevilla would love nothing more than to pull off an upset and pass Barca in the table.
